Real dates

Since children in Bavaria officially attend school five days a week, Saturdays and Sundays are not included in the school holidays. Possible exceptions

Below are listed instances when the school may deviate from the school year schedule. These may be general exceptions to the rules or specific ones.

#1 If there are any events on Saturday (open days, sports events, etc.), students receive an additional day off on a weekday.

#2 If for some reason the school was closed for an extended period (due to repairs, a utility failure, etc.), the school administration may assign “work time” on Saturdays. In practice, this happens very rarely.

#3 Private and music schools may offer classes on Saturdays as electives or additional courses.

#4 Representatives of major religious denominations may be exempt from classes on major religious holidays. For example: Yom Kippur or Passover for Jews, Ramadan Bayram and Eid al-Adha for Muslims.

#5 Children of any religious denomination may be excused from school for religious purposes (attending religious services, participating in religious events, etc.). This requires permission from the school.

#6 A student may be excused from school for important personal reasons. For example, attending a funeral or wedding of a close relative, participating in a sporting competition, or participating in a high-profile social event. This requires permission from the school.
