Flexible school holidays in Germany 2026-2027

In this article, we published the exact dates of the Christmas, winter, Easter, and summer holidays in Germany for 2026-2027. However, Germany does have flexible school holidays (floating weekends). These are additional days off, the dates of which are determined by the school administration, municipal administration, the board of several schools, or the board of a specific educational institution.

The number of such days may change each year. Flexible school holidays have been introduced in the following federal states: Baden-Württemberg, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, and Saxony. Exact dates can only be confirmed with your school.

Flexible school holidays in Germany for the 2025-2026 academic year

  • Baden-Württemberg – 3 days.
  • Hesse – 4 days.
  • North Rhine-Westphalia – 3 days.
  • Rhineland-Palatinate – 6 days.

Easter (spring) school holidays in Germany 2026

Here are the dates for the Easter school holidays in Germany in 2026. Although the date of Easter and related holidays is the same for all federal states, the dates of the Easter holidays usually vary.

IMPORTANT: Hamburg does not have a separate Easter holiday. As throughout Germany, Easter Monday is a public holiday. Spring break takes the place of Easter break. To avoid confusion, we’ve included it in this section.
