When Hamburg schoolchildren take a break from classes
During the school year, children in Hamburg have five break periods. These are four vacation periods and one additional day off from school (a half-term break).
IMPORTANT! There is no Easter break in Hamburg. Instead, schoolchildren have spring break. Also, instead of Pentecost break, May break is observed. Although it doesn’t coincide with the holiday, it is referred to as Pentecost break on the official website of the city-state of Hamburg.
In addition to school holidays, Hamburg schools may have “bridge days.” These are additional non-school days that are not annual. They are established to connect a public holiday with a Saturday or Sunday. For example:
In 2028, Reformation Day (October 31) falls on a Tuesday.
The previous Monday (October 30) was made a bridge day.
Schoolchildren will have long weekends. They will be off from school from Saturday to Tuesday, from October 28 to 31, 2028.
