This is important to know!
The Conference of Education Ministers sets the summer school holiday schedule in Germany several years in advance. They publish the dates, but in some cases, there are exceptions and special rules. Be sure to pay attention to the next four paragraphs of this article!
#1. If summer school holidays in any German state end midweek, they may be extended until the end of the week. In practice, this rarely happens. But just in case, check the last date of summer holidays at your school.
#2. If your school is in Lower Saxony and located on islands in the North Sea, check the summer vacation schedule. Due to specific climate and weather conditions, dates may vary significantly.
#3. In Schleswig-Holstein, special summer holiday conditions apply on the following islands: Sylt, Föhr, Amrum, Heligoland, and the Halliger Islands. We’ve listed them separately, below the school holiday dates for general schools.
#4. School holiday dates in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern depend on the type of school. Vocational schools have a different school year schedule than all other schools (starting in 2025). You can find them under the school holiday dates for general schools.
IMPORTANT! The Conference of Education Ministers website offers a PDF of the summer vacation schedule for Germany for 2025-2030. It is incorrect (the changes affected the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern the most).
The Conference of Education Ministers publishes vacation schedules for each academic year separately. These documents contain up-to-date dates. We also remind you that we are constantly updating information and adjusting our publications to reflect the latest changes!
