What you need to know about school holidays in Lower Saxony

The school year schedule in Lower Saxony is set up until the end of 2030. According to the law, it can be changed. But in practice, this only happens in emergency situations (wars, epidemics, etc.). The schedule is approved by the Conference of Ministers of Education and published on its website.

As in all federal states of Germany, children in Lower Saxony are exempt from attending school on public holidays. Schools are also closed on the day following Ascension Day. This is so that they can rest for four days in a row, from Thursday to Sunday.
