Until 2023-2024, schoolchildren in Rhineland-Palatinate had five fixed holiday periods. Starting with the 2024-2025 school year, this federal state will have four fixed holiday periods and so-called flexible holidays:

IMPORTANT! Unlike other German federal states, Rhineland-Palatinate does not have official bridge days. Even if a holiday falls on a Tuesday or Thursday, the Monday or Friday immediately preceding it remains a regular school day. Instead, schools receive “flexible” holidays—six floating days off.
Flexible school holidays in Rhineland-Palatinate
Each school can designate up to six non-school days. These free days are called “flexible days” or “flexible holidays.” Their dates are determined by the school. These dates can be found on the school’s website or by contacting teachers. During flexible holidays, schools are closed to both students and staff.
The school must publish the dates of the flexible days no later than the fall of the corresponding academic year. Typically, this is done in August or September. The decision on these dates is made by the School Council. It includes:
